See What Counselors Are Saying About Working at Camp Tioga

As 2015 comes to a close, it's time to start thinking about 2016. Do you want a fun summer job? If so, consider becoming a counselor at Camp Tioga. See what our former counselors have to say about their experiences working at Camp Tioga.
"Working for Camp Tioga was an amazing experience. I have never met so many fun people that made you seem like family. Yes family!!! From the time you arrive you will be greeted with cheers jumps and screams." - Earnest

"Five years ago I got a job working at a summer camp in Pennsylvania. Not knowing what to expect, I packed my bags and headed east. My summer was amazing and I thought there was never going to be a summer I would miss. Words cannot describe what Camp Tioga has done for my life. I have met friends, family, and memories that will last a lifetime. Camp Tioga has shaped me into the man I am today, and for that I cannot express my gratitude enough. So tonight I turn the final page in the chapter of the greatest journey of my life, grateful that I have experienced such a great opportunity. Tomorrow I will wake up and open the page to a new chapter in my life, and hope that I can make it just as good as the last. Tioga, I hope I will always have a place in your heart, knowing that you will always have a place in mine." - Chris

"It's been 10 years since I was a counselor at Camp Tioga but there aren't many days that go by where I don't think about the fantastic times I had and the brilliant people I met. Wags & co have created a truly awesome camp experience which seems to go from strength to strength each year. Would recommend 100%. Go Green Team!!!" - Trent

How Camp Teaches Children the Importance of Teamwork

Did you know that our activities involve constant collaboration with others? At Camp Tioga, we believe that learning how to work within a team is a lifelong skill. Below are some ways we emphasize teamwork to our campers.

There's No "I" In Team
When children attend school, they are focused on their own education. They do not need to work in tandem with their peers in order to succeed. However, that is not how it is in the real world. It is imperative to work well in a team and be a team player. At Camp Tioga, we realize that teamwork makes the dream work!

Cooperation
In a group setting, there will be different personalities and different perspectives. Children need to take these things into consideration when working together. At camp, they will learn how to cooperate with one another to achieve a common goal.

If you want your child to be a team player, the solution is clear--enroll your child at Camp Tioga! Call 516-938-0894 today to reserve your spot.

The Health Benefits of Spending Time in the Great Outdoors

With all of the technology available today, some children spend almost all of their time indoors. They can play their games from the comfort of their homes. However, children need to spend more time outside. It will help them disconnect from technology and reconnect with nature. Below are the health benefits associated with outdoor play.

Easy on the Eyes
Starting at a screen for hours on end can really take its toll on your eyes. Luckily, spending time outside can actually improve your vision. Best of all, children will be able to appreciate the nature's beauty.

A Stress Reliever
It is no secret that everyone experiences stress. Even children get stressed out! Studies show that spending time in the great outdoors is a good stress reliever for children.

Social Skills
Some children are active on social media. Playing outside with one another does not require a friend request. Instead, they will learn how to develop social skills by interacting with one another.

Are you searching for a place to help your child develop an appreciation for nature? Look no further than Camp Tioga! To enroll in our camp, email info@camptioga.com or give us a call at 516-938-0894.

Why You Should Send Your Child To Sleepaway Camp

At one point or another, you may have wondered, "should I send my child to overnight camp?" The answer is yes! Below are some reasons why going to camp is a worthwhile experience.

Great Option For Working Parents
If both parents work, you may not have anyone to watch your child during the week. Hiring a babysitter for the entire summer can be costly. Camp can solve this problem for you. At Camp Tioga, we have a camper to staff ratio better than 3 to 1. This ensures that your child will be supervised at all times.

Children Develop Confidence
At Camp Tioga, we believe that all children should feel good about themselves. Are you worried about your child's confidence? If so, camp is the perfect place to work on it. Reconnecting With The Great Outdoors
It is important for children to get outdoors and play. However, this is difficult for children who live in urban areas. Camp Tioga is located in the incredible Endless Mountain region of Pennsylvania. We have a state-of-the-art campus that is situated on 110 scenic acres. With that kind of outdoor space, your child will enjoy the great outdoors to the fullest extent.

Camp Prepares Kids for the Real World

There is no denying that children learn a lot of information at school. Does school prepare students for the real world? Camp covers topics and skills that schools do not address. Below are some of the things camp teaches kids about the real world.

Teamwork
At school, you are focused on yourself and your education. That is not the case at camp. There is a saying that teamwork makes the dream work and we couldn't agree more! In the real world, you will be working with a team or department within a company.

Decision Making
There are certain classes you must take in school in order to move up a grade or even graduate. Again, this is not true for our happy campers. In fact, campers are encouraged to pick and choose their activities. They are learning how to make decisions based on their likes and dislikes. It is important to be decisive in the real world

Overcoming Obstacles
Nowadays, most kids live a pretty comfortable life. While this is a good thing, it also does not challenge kids to overcome obstacles. At Camp Tioga, our campers try new things and in the process, learn how to conquer their fears. In the real world, you will discover new things that scare you. Your camp days will remind you how to handle these situations.

Allowing your child to keep developing while not in the classroom each summer is important. A great way to allow children to keep developing is to sign them up for summer camp. At Camp Tioga, your child can continue to grow as a person while having fun on their summer break. For an in-depth look at what Camp Tioga has to offer take a look at our website or call 570-756-2660 for more information.

Why Kids Need To Unplug From Technology

With the technology we have at our fingertips, children can miss out on experiences and real life connections to others. Camp is a place where children can put the smartphones down and learn to connect to others and with nature.

The children of today spend an average of almost eight hours per day using technology, according to a survey by the Kaiser Family Foundation. That’s more than 50 hours a week!  At camp, children can unplug from the cyber-world and focus solely on building real life relationships. Doing this can make one more personable and open to trying new experiences. This is a great life skill to have for later in life in the workplace.

Camp is one of the few places left where a child can fully unplug from technology. Most camps have strict policies regarding what is allowed at camp. Video games, cell phones, laptops, tablets, and any Wi-Fi enabled devices are usually banned from the premises. The only items most camps do allow are e-readers, without internet capabilities, and mp3 players, without video capabilities.

Initially, children might be opposed to not having electronics, but with time they will realize they can have fun without them. It is important for children to learn how to interact with others in the real world. Are you searching for a place to help your child unplug next summer? Look no further than Camp Tioga! We are confident that by the end of camp, your child will have new friends and memories that will last them a lifetime. To enroll in our camp, email info@camptioga.com or give us a call at 516-938-0894.
