How To Deal with Homesickness

It is normal for campers to get homesick at one point or another. After all, this might be the first time you've been away from your home and family members. Below are some tips to help you overcome homesickness.
  • Wait it out to see if the feeling of homesickness is temporary. For most children, it lasts for a few days.
  • If the feeling of homesickness does not go away, it is important for that camper to talk with someone about it. Talking about it could help them feel better.
  • Children need to remember that camp is supposed to be fun! At Camp Tioga, we offer a wide variety of sports and activities. There is something for everyone.
  • Campers are allowed to write letters and make phone calls to family members. Doing so can bridge the gap between camp and home life.
  • Kids who are feeling homesick should do their best to stay busy. With so much going on, they might even forget that they were homesick!
  • Last but certainly not least, campers need to remember that camp is only temporary.
Many children experience homesickness, and our caring staff has been trained to help them deal with homesickness. At Camp Tioga, we create the most nurturing, comforting environment possible, and with all of our unbelievable activities, no child stays homesick for long. Our camp counselors will do everything in their power to make each camper feel at home.
