Why You Should Send Your Child To Sleepaway Camp Next Summer

Summer camp can provide children with tons of great benefits such as helping them connect with nature, boosting their self esteem and helps them to develop interests. If you’ve ever wondered if you should send your child to overnight camp--the answer is yes! Here are some reasons why going to camp is a worthwhile experience.

Occupies The Summer
Camp is a great option for working parents. If both parents work, you may not have anyone to watch your child during the week. It can be difficult to find a babysitter for the entire summer, and they won’t be able to provide your child with all of the experiences that camp offers. At Camp Tioga, we have a camper to staff ratio better than 3 to 1. Your child will be supervised at all times and have lots of fun in a safe, nurturing environment.

Children Develop Confidence
Are you worried about your child’s confidence? At Camp Tioga, we believe that all children should feel good about themselves--and we provide the setting to foster self esteem and confidence building. We offer plenty of sports and activities that kids can excel at. Mastering a new skill can do wonders for a child's self esteem. When kids are in an unfamiliar setting, it forces them to go outside of their comfort zone, which helps them grow. According to the American Camp Association, 92 percent of kids who attend camp say that the people at camp helped them feel good about themselves.

Reconnect With The Great Outdoors
Staying active and connecting with nature are two huge components of camp. In a society where technology has consumed our lives, children often fail to get outside and explore their surroundings. Camp Tioga’s state of the art campus is located in the incredible Endless Mountain region of Pennsylvania and spans 110 scenic acres. With that kind of outdoor space, your child will experience the great outdoors and learn the facets of how to live a healthy and active life.

Important Moments That Only Happen At Camp

Going to sleepaway camp is a milestone in a young person's life. After all, there are some experiences and moments that only camp can provide. When your children attend camp, they will experience tons of firsts. Camp opens them up to a whole new world of activities, people and ideas that they normally might not be exposed to.

Here are some of the most memorable moments that camp has to offer:
  • For many campers, it will be the very first time they're away from family members, friends and their home. Campers must learn how adapt to a new way of life.
  • Attending sleepaway camp also gives campers the opportunity to meet a lot of people. They will meet new campers and counselors along the way. In the end, it enhances their social skills, and teaches them things like acceptance, tolerance and how to feel more secure in situations outside of their comfort zone.
  • For children who live in urban areas, there may not be a lot of opportunities to explore outside and experience nature. Camp Tioga introduces your child to exploring the great outdoors, as well as an array of sports and activities.
  • At Camp Tioga, we encourage our campers to express themselves. Campers have lots of arts & crafts projects to choose from and can dabble in the performing arts.

How To Make The Most Of Your Time Away From Camp

We know your children are probably longing for the fun days of new activities and forming friendships that camp brings. But since camp only lasts for three months, it’s important that they keep the camp mentality going for the remainder of the year.  Encourage your children to make the most of their time while away from camp with these tips:

Join a Sports Team:
Camp introduces children to an array of sports and activities that they may not have tried on their own. This could lead to them discovering a new sport that they’re not only good at, but that they enjoy as well. Joining a sports team is a great way to fill their time at home and teaches them about the importance of teamwork, being active and making friends--the same things they learn at camp!
Keep in Touch With Camp Friends:
While Camp Tioga is a tech-free zone, social media and technology are great ways for your children to keep in touch with their camp friends. It helps campers feel a sense of belonging when they stay connected to their friends from camp. Planning a camp meet-up, or a mini reunion is also something that your kids might look forward to during the off-season.
Reflect On The Camp Experience:
Once camp is over, your child will have time to reflect on the experience as a whole. Camp teaches kids so many life lessons, it’s important for them to think about them and apply them to their daily life.  After reflecting on these lessons, it will be interesting to see what they’re looking forward to learning next summer.
Looking for a sleepaway camp for next summer?  Camp Tioga  is the place to be! We provide fun, friendships and lifelong memories to all of our campers. To learn more about all that we have to offer or to schedule a tour of the camp, give us a call at 516-938-0894 or visit us on Facebook.
