Let’s Reflect On What Camp Has Taught Us

We can’t believe that 2017 is right around the corner! The end of a year is a great time for us to reflect on all of the things we learned in the previous year and to take time to be grateful for all that we have. As we set our intentions for a wonderful 2017, it’s important to take a little time to reflect on what camp has helped us learn in 2016.

Of course, the things that camp has taught us are endless. Giving your child the gift of camp is actually the gift that keeps on giving. Why Your Child Needs Camp

If you’ve been considering sending your child to camp next summer, there’s no better time to enroll! Aside from the obvious fact that camp is tons of fun, children benefit from camp in a number of ways. Don’t deprive your child of another camp-less summer. Here are some reasons why your child needs camp in their lives:

Unplug and Recharge: Research shows that children spend roughly a third of their day engulfed in electronics. Sitting behind a computer screen or electronic device all day results in a lack of human interaction, which can actually stunt the growth of a child’s social development. Camp provides an opportunity for kids to enjoy a tech detox, allowing for the engagement of more face-to-face interactions.

Autonomy: At camp, children develop a new found sense of independence. Sometimes, being separated from parents is the best way to help children learn how to do things on their own.  THis helps them learn to feel confident in making their own decisions, and allows them to learn from their actions and become self-reliant.

Life Skills and Success: Some life skills are not learned in the classroom. Camp offers children the opportunity to build these life skills to coincide with their new found knowledge. Camp teaches kids 21st century life skills that include oral communication, critical thinking, problem solving, creativity, social skills and leadership. These competencies are now required of future employees by all Fortune 500 Companies

Children that learn these life skills have a better chance at becoming a successful adult. Allowing your child to keep developing while not in the classroom each summer is important. A great way to allow children to keep developing is to sign them up for summer camp. At Camp Tioga, your child can continue to grow as a person while also still having fun on their summer break. What Camp Is All About

As the weather gets colder, it’s hard to not dream of sunnier and warmer days ahead--and the days of camp! If you’re already thinking about camp next summer you’re not alone! Kids who have never been to Camp Tioga might be wondering what it’s all about! If you’re thinking about sending your child to camp next summer, here’s a little look into what makes camp so awesome:

  • Builds Confidence: Camp is an enriching experience for children. They get to learn new things they would never learn in school. Mastering a new skill helps boosts their confidence and raise their self-esteem. Children are more likely to try new things throughout their life, after learning how to do so at camp!
  • Improves Social Skills: Sometimes different social cliques at school make children feel shy or apprehensive when making new friends. Not at camp! At Camp Tioga, everyone is encouraged to make new friends and develop social skills! The great part about camp is that children are introduced to people from all different walks of life that they would normally not be exposed to. Camp not only helps them socially, but also teaches them acceptance of others.
  • Helps Them Overcome Obstacles: Campers will face different challenges at camp. Whether it be conquering a fear or getting over being homesick, children learn how to overcome different obstacles in life. With the help and support of their new camp friends and nurturing counselors, camp is a great way to allow your child to feel at ease with tackling things that might make them anxious.

Camp Tioga is much more than just a camp. Campers and counselors alike are apart of the Camp Tioga family. We are confident that Camp Tioga is the right fit for any child. This is due to our superior staff, picturesque grounds and the 80 activities we offer. If you would like to become apart of our family, call 516-938-0894 or visit our website to enroll today!
